Conference Weekend

What a nice weekend we had. Saturday morning we had friends over for a big breakfast and Sunday morning we were invited to a friends house for a breakfast and to watch the first session. The talks were wonderful it was nice to relax and lay around as a family eating, coloring, sleeping and watching conference.
While having breakfast at our house our good friend, who is Mike's boss came and joined us. He is not a member of the church but we invite him to everything we do with our friends because he doesn't have any family here in town. He also happens to be gay, which is only relevant because he is aware of how we and our church feel about the gay lifestyle/marriage etc. He also knows that we love him and don't care either way. He is our token gay friend and we are his token mormon friends and anytime we have a question about the other we feel perfectly comfortable asking each other without being offended, it is great. We have had a lot of questions answered and had a lot of laughs together because of it.
I mention him because at breakfast he and all of our friends were discussing different religions and he mentioned that he grew up baptist. He talked about going to a class about cults and that the first cult he was warned of were the mormons. So growing up he had always thought we were wacky, had a bunch of wives etc. Then he said "and then I became an adult and I started working with a bunch of mormons and these people were the most accepting, forgiving and kind people I had ever met. They were like the Jesus I had learned about growing up...not the cult I was warned to avoid." To me that was the greatest part of my weekend. I am grateful for a husband who has taught me to be more loving, accepting and less judgmental of others (even when I wasn't meaning to be). I have friends now that I would have never had, had I not married Michael and I am grateful for that.
